INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

(1) The story of March 8 was chosen as International Women's Day, begins in the year 1857 in New York City.

(2) Workers at a textile factory had a major strike. They protested against a 16-hour workday and called for a 10-hour reduction in workload. 

 (3)They also wanted their wages to be equal to men's wages, for they were paid up to a third of their wages to do the same work and also demanded a dignified treatment in the workplace. 

(4) However, this manifestation was suppressed with extreme violence.

(5) The doors of the company were all closed and the women were locked in there and then the industry was set on fire.

 

(6) Approximately 130 weavers died carbonized in a totally inhuman act.

(7) In 1910, during a conference in Denmark, it was decided that March 8 would become the "International Women's Day" in honor of the women who died burned in the factory in 1857.

(8) Only in 1975, by a decree, the date was made official by the UN (United Nations) 

(9) The purpose of this date is not only to celebrate but to reflect on the situation of women in the world.

(10) In most countries, conferences, debates and meetings are held to discuss the role of women in today's society. 

(11) The effort is to try to diminish and, perhaps one day end, with the prejudice and the devaluation of the woman.

(12) Even with all the advances, they still suffer from low pay, male violence, excessive work hours, and career disadvantages in many places.

(13) Much has been won, but much remains to be changed in this story.
